How to Understand Broadcast Notification Types.
Identifying the difference between direct and indirect shift offers.
In Platform for Care, coordinators can fill shift vacancies by sending out notifications to qualified staff. Understanding how these notifications reach you—and the difference between being directly invited versus viewing a general vacancy—is key to managing your roster effectively.
1. Direct Shift Invitations
A Direct Invitation occurs when a rostering coordinator specifically selects your name to fill a gap. This usually happens because you are a preferred worker for that client or are already approved for that specific service.
- How you are notified: You will receive a real-time push notification on your mobile device, an email with a link to accept, or a text message if SMS services are enabled for your organisation.
- The Logic: These are often "First-in, First-served". The first employee to click "Accept" in the app is automatically assigned to the shift.
- Where to find them: Direct requests appear in the Pending tab of your mobile app or on your Dashboard in the web portal.
2. Broadcast (Indirect) Vacancies
A Broadcast Notification is an indirect offer sent to a pool of qualified employees simultaneously.
- How it works: The system identifies all staff who are available, have the correct role, and possess valid mandatory documents for the shift.
- Expression of Interest: For some broadcast shifts, clicking a button doesn't instantly give you the shift. Instead, you may "Express Interest" or "Bid" on the role.
- Coordinator Review: The coordinator reviews everyone who expressed interest and manually chooses the most suitable worker.
3. System Alerts and Announcements
Beyond shift offers, you will receive System Alerts that provide critical administrative information.
- Document Expiry: The system automatically pings you if a mandatory document (like a Police Check or First Aid certificate) is about to expire.
- Roster Updates: Once a manager "Publishes" a roster, you receive a notification so you can see your finalised schedule.
- Internal Communication: Messages sent directly by Business Partner staff (coordinators or admins) will arrive as both an in-app notification and an email.
