Starting and ending shifts via the mobile app.
Using location services and radius to log shift duration.
Accurate time tracking is essential for both payroll and compliance. The Platform for Care mobile app uses advanced GPS and geo-fencing technology to verify that staff are at the correct service location when beginning and concluding their work. This guide explains how to use these location services to log your shift duration accurately.
1. Enabling Location Services
For the app to verify your arrival and departure, your smartphone must have location services enabled.
- Device Settings: Ensure your phone's GPS/Location is turned ON.
- App Permissions: In your phone's settings, find Platform for Care and set location access to "Allow While Using App".
- Accuracy: For the best results, ensure "High Accuracy" mode is enabled on Android or "Precise Location" is toggled on for iOS.
2. Starting Your Shift (The Geofence Radius)
When you arrive at a client's home or a service facility, the app checks your coordinates against the address listed in the system.
- Open the Shift: Tap the scheduled shift in your Personal Roster.
- Arrival: Once you are within the designated radius (geofence) of the location, the Clock In or Start Shiftbutton will become active.
- Action: Tap Select Action > Start Shift.
- Verification: If you are outside the allowed radius, the app will display a warning message: "You are too far from the service location." You must move closer to the site to proceed.
3. Ending Your Shift
Similarly, the system requires a location check when you finish your work to prevent "early departures" or accidental clock-outs from home.
- Finalize Notes: Before clocking out, ensure your progress notes and kilometers are entered.
- Action: Tap Select Action > End Shift.
- Sign-off: If required, present the device to the client for their digital signature.
- Departure: Once the app confirms you are still within the geofence, the shift will be submitted and marked as Completed.
4. Troubleshooting Location Errors
If you are physically at the location but the app says you are too far away, try these steps:
- Refresh GPS: Close the app completely and reopen it to force a location refresh.
- Check the Address: Ensure the client's address in the app matches where you are. If the address is pinned incorrectly in the system, notify your administrator.
- Disable Wi-Fi: Sometimes, public Wi-Fi can interfere with GPS accuracy. Switching to mobile data can often provide a more precise location fix.
- Manual Override: If you cannot clock in due to a technical error, document your actual arrival time in the Shift Notes and contact your supervisor to have the times adjusted manually.
